Development

Cloud & Backend Development

The APIs, databases, and infrastructure your product runs on — secure, scalable, and engineered so 3 a.m. incidents stay rare.

Backends are where products quietly succeed or fail. Users never see your API design, your database schema, or your deployment pipeline — but they feel every one of them as speed, reliability, and whether their data is safe. This is unglamorous engineering that rewards experience.

We design backends around your actual scale and a realistic growth curve — not imaginary millions of users that justify over-engineering, and not shortcuts that collapse at the first real traffic. Managed services where they make sense, custom services where they earn their keep, infrastructure as code throughout.

Security is treated as a requirement, not a feature: least-privilege access, encrypted data at rest and in transit, secrets management, dependency scanning, and audit logging are defaults in our builds, with the unavoidable trade-offs explained in plain language.

What We Build

Cloud & Backend: Our Offerings

API Development

REST and GraphQL APIs with authentication, versioning, rate limiting, and documentation your integrators will actually use.

Database Design & Optimisation

Schemas designed for your access patterns, and rescue work for databases that have grown slow and tangled.

Cloud Architecture & Migration

AWS, Azure, and GCP environments built with infrastructure as code — or migrations from servers and legacy hosts into the cloud.

Integrations & Middleware

Payment gateways, ERPs, CRMs, logistics providers — the connective tissue between your product and everything it talks to.

Real-Time Systems

Live updates, notifications, chat, and event-driven pipelines using WebSockets and message queues.

Performance & Cost Tuning

Profiling and fixing slow systems, and trimming cloud bills that have crept upward unattended.

What You Get

Delivered with Discipline

  • Infrastructure as code — reproducible, reviewable, recoverable
  • Security defaults: least privilege, encryption, secrets management, audit logs
  • Monitoring and alerting before launch, not after the first incident
  • Backups with tested restores — untested backups are wishes
  • Architecture documentation and runbooks for whoever operates it

FAQ

Common Questions About Cloud & Backend

Which cloud provider should we use?

If you're already on one, usually that one — migration for its own sake rarely pays. For greenfield projects we default to AWS for breadth unless your context points elsewhere (existing Microsoft estate → Azure; data/ML-heavy → GCP). We design for portability where it's cheap, but pragmatically: full cloud-agnosticism costs more than it returns for most businesses.

Can you take over an existing backend another team built?

Yes — it's common. We start with a paid audit: architecture review, security scan, dependency health, and a prioritised risk list. Then you decide whether we stabilise and extend, or plan a gradual replacement. We don't recommend rewrites unless the numbers genuinely support them.

How do you handle security?

As table stakes: least-privilege IAM, encrypted data at rest and in transit, secrets in a vault rather than in code, dependency scanning in CI, and audit logging. For regulated clients we work within your compliance frameworks and provide the documentation your auditors ask for.

Will it scale when we grow?

We design for roughly 10× your current load with a clear path beyond — stateless services, queue-based decoupling, and databases that can grow. What we don't do is build for 1000× on day one; that money is better spent on product. When growth comes, the architecture has room and the bottlenecks are known in advance.
